May 12, 2009 - Wichita, KS - The Wichita Center for the Arts is excited to add Side by Side Special Needs Art Camp to their list of exciting summer camps. There are three sessions to choose from: June 1- June 5, 2009, June 15- June 19, 2009, and July 6- July 10, 2009. Classes are from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and tuition is $110/members $100.

This summer camp is for any adult or child with special needs. The student, along with a family member, family friend, grandparent, etc. will cover painting, watercolor, printmaking, and more. Each project will be demonstrated by the instructor and then a checklist of steps and materials will be provided for each side by side group. The steps will have different difficulty levels to choose from, from very easy to more difficult. Each team can go at their own pace and doesn't have to complete each step. They will complete 3 projects each class with a short time for outside play, music, and dance.

The instructors for this course are Crystal Henderson and Allison Charboneau. "Art is a creative way to express yourself, no matter what your ability is," says Crystal. Crystal is also The Wichita Center for the Arts Creative Child Center Preschool Certified Director and Lead Teacher. She received her bachelor's degree in Not-for-Profit Management, Business Quality Management, and Human Resource Development and has thirteen years of preschool education experience. Allison Charboneau is currently a K-4 Structured Learning Teacher in Goddard, KS. She has a background in daycare, preschool, and special education. Training in level 1 TEACCH, PECS, STAR curriculum, and Mandt accompany valuable experience for a creative look on problem solving and out of the box approach to fun.
