It’s time to dust off those ceramic pumpkins, put out the scarecrow and plan for the perfect Halloween costume. There are so many choices - cute little fairy, tough cowboy, scary ghost or how about an evil witch?

When it comes to finding the right costume you have to think about personality, size and ease of getting the costume on and off. There are plenty of places around Wichita to begin your search. If you are so inclined, you can make the outfit yourself; hit the thrift store for hidden treasures or check out a specialty shop. When all else fails, ask your dog. After all it’s your dog that you’re shopping for!

The key to a successful K9 costume is finding one that the dog will keep on! Dogs are like any child; they won’t leave something on if it is irritating them! Some stores will let you shop with your dog, so make the most of it and take them with you. If he won’t leave the fuzzy headband on in the store, chances are he won’t wear it on Halloween either.

Your dog’s personality should also play a part. There’s just something funny about seeing a bulldog in a princess outfit or a dachshund walking by as a hotdog. And a one-eyed shichon as a pirate is absolutely adorable!

Once you’ve found the perfect ensemble it’s off to the Halloween Party. This year the party of choice is happening on Saturday, October 31, at Uptown Paws from 10a.m. to 6 p.m. They’ll be taking photos of all the K9 trick-or-treaters to put up around the store and on their website.

Special dog safe treats will be available – remember, dogs cannot have chocolate! And there will be drawings for special discounts! If you happen to be hosting your own K9 party you can pick up Halloween decorated treats at Uptown Paws. You’ll also find reflective leashes for trick-or-treating! And if you’re still looking for that last minute outfit, they have pirate, French maid and devil costumes.

Make this Halloween special for you and your K9 kid! Find the costume that is comfortable, easy to wear and matches your pet’s personality. Then share your photos with us!
